Home appreciation in Canada is strong and sustainable. The recent anomoly of soaring prices in the US, all experts agree, was driven by loose lending policies, and the sorts of bad loans that are simply not permitted in Canada. As a result, they are now not experiencing the same depreciation that is being felt in many US cities.
Housing prices in Canada do of course vary tremendously. And go through cycles. Vancouver is very expensive. Toronto is close on its heels. But to suggest homes don't increase value in Canada is perhaps the dumbest of the many dumb things you've said here.
I mean here we are in the middle of what all economists argue is a gloomy US housing market and you try and come up with nonsensical criticisms of the Canadian housing market.
Where do you get these utterly baseless comments? Use facts when you make an argument. They are more helpful to readers than rants without substance.
Disseminate real information. Information that you can bring to light that may actually enlighten me and many others.

That was a symbolic example. I meant to say that in Canada Housing is just meant housing not the investment. Here in capitalist market housing is never been a housing alone , prime motto to have housing is investment. If we might be debating this 3 years back on this forum ( In booming Real Estate market, yep, US GC Process was sucker then too :) ) you would not have anything against US real estate market to argue about. And that's the point. Housing market here too has cycles and if you wait out patiently you would have appreciation in a scale that normal Canadian may have to dream about.
And that is the point. If lending industry seems to be loosely controlled to you in the USA then yes there are ways to deal with it. You have to learn them. In Canada, in your terms, so called "Good loans" has kept Canadian economy "Welfare economy" only. To progress dynamically any country should have economy to be able to have kicks in, and USA market has that capacity. Today you are ranting about bad housing in USA... agreed, but seeing your signature, it seems that you never want to leave USA and with your claim "to love USA", I believe you will still be around here for years debating with me.. (wait, let me go grab a cup of cofee.:) .. I also need "Dynamic Kick" to debate with you) , I will be able to show you how much appreciation average american can have on average home. Did not you hear NPR yesterday? Housing market is coming back. Now housing is always the prime factor in any economy and so I choose that example. I am not saying 7% is not applicable for recaptured numbers. EB3-ROW was current while EB3-IN,Ch retrogressed in 2005.
Again 7% is not a quota or minimum or maximum. It is a guiding tool to avoid monopoly (not to prevent) for fist two months in a quarter and gave the remaining number to third month. It is not meant for reservation.
As you said Bangaldeshies can not raise flag they as have not consumed 7% quota. Therefore one can not argue that Bangladesh-EB3 should be "current".
At the end, first-come first served should prevails.

Dont know where you guys get all this information but this thread is like a lamp when you are gropping in a dark cave. The tone seems to be very mild (no hatred / quarelling) and everybody seems to maintain and spread a positive attitude. One thing is undeniably true and that is a positive attitude / outlook always attracts positive things. I encourage everybody to purposefully cultivate positive thoughts (eg:- "something surprising good is going to happen").

How many do you estimate will really buy a home if there is a law like this.

With downpayments of 250k and mortages for the rest, we are soon talking some pretty decent numbers here (assuming bay area kind of home prices)
Also you mentioned IV is discussing this. Do you mean core IV team is officially involved in a campaign or is this just ur own initiative.

Christ is god's son! He does not need a Green Card or any other color card :D So what is the point of making it 0?:p
Please do not spread rumors, can you please point me to the rule that says so? I did not see any Immigration law saying that God's Son doesn't need a Green Card. Christ wasn't born in USA, and neither were his parents US citizens, so his chance of US naturalization comes from a path through Green Card or Asylum. I dont think Christ had a 4 year degree (recognized by USCIS), so he does not qualify for GC based on EB1/2/3 categories. He could claim asylum though religious persecution, but then I am not sure if Christianity was recognized by USCIS during Christ's time :D

Instead of Interim GC we should demand that once Labor and I-140 is approved remove the restriction wherein a person has to stay in same job type until GC approved in other words allow the person to take any job while I-485 is pending. This will be a big benefit and logically makes sense. If this happens than GC wait will not pigeon hole people's career in one job and allow them to grow and contribute to economy.
This benefit already exists under AC21 (after 180 days of filing). Allowing you to ditch sponsoring employer on the first day of filing I-485 defeats the whole idea of employer sponsorship.

Hi,
I applied for I-485 for myself , my wife ans son, on July 27th 07 (Thi sis the receipr date), My lawyer did not send the medical reports with the application. Currently the reports are with him. Medical exam was done on July 18 07. My PD will be current in Aug 08(as per the bulletin). I am sure i will get an RFE for the medical reports, and most probably it wil come in AUG 08 or later.
My question is, do i need to go for medical exam again , or can my lawer send the reports that he has with him to USCIS in reply to the RFE? I am confused since, by the time i get the RFE, the reports would be more than 1 year old.

The question doesn't arise because he is SRK or APJ or in future Manmohan singh. The point is does it take TWO HOURS to find the identity of the person. How did you feel when you were questioned for an hour at the POE even after staying here for 9 years and stay in US legally and paying taxes etc.. can't they have better immigration procedures in place to identify legal from illegal (LIKE biometric finger printing, etc). They have this sophisticated computer information network.. if you give your SSN they can find any data they want.. about your employer, about your pay roll, your taxes etc.. then why this delay at POE to idenfity geniune people from entering US. These actions look totally racist to me. Don't you think these (US) people know how to improve this system.. they can but there is no will to do so.. Just look at priority dates how they swing +5 years to -5 years every year (2000 to 2005). It looks like someone just picks any year between 2000 to 2005 based on his mood. Can't this developed country have a software system to predict visa number availability or to predict how the dates should advance and by how much... this is want really sucks.. this so called developed country doesn't have a system in place for immigration issues.. Just look at the people who got their green cards who's priority dates were 2006 and people from 2002 or 2003 are still waiting.. how can their system (software) allow people with older dates to wait while someone with PD 2006 get their GC.. Things can be better managed and controlled with total transperancy but there is no WILL to do so.. i am not sure if IV can play any role in pushing some reforms to have a better system in place. There was another thread discussing about IO officers visting to employee office to find geniune applications and for more details.. this is simple waste of money and resources with SSN can give you almost 90% of the details.... overall the frustration is about the System and not about SRK or APJ.
While proponents would mask this whole backlog issue as something purposefully done by the "system" I don't buy it. It is a proven disaster.
As far as the software goes clearly their programmers suck. They sure could use some help from the more efficient H1B's.

In my opinion, it is more relevant to EB immigration....To support a higher number of benefit recipient you need a higher number of EB immigrant who are more likely to be productive that FB immigrants.....
Now that is equivalent of passing judgment on FB immigrants as being unproductive.....I know I am going to get flak on that...
Remember a few posts back; I had said that I thought it was difficult to get h-1b or EB based greencard because it would be pretty difficult to prove that no American is qualified for the job. I wish I had never got involved in immigration so that I could have kept with that thought.
However; I am sure that just about everyone on these boards also thinks that.
The employment base definition of a skilled worker is a job which requires two years of experience (this is the same thing as a professional worker where the job requires a degree). Would you be surprised to know that just about everyone who is coming through family base or lottery visa would also fall into the definition of skilled worker.
In the past three years; I have seen an administrative assistant get sponsored as a skilled worker; a cook making $8.50 as a specialty cook at an Indian restaurant; 8 phillipinos getting sponsored as cooks with a wage of $9.00 at a restaurant; a convenience store clerk; (from reading administrative appeals decisions; i have seen a driving instructor, horse trainer, etc.). All of these jobs fit into a definition of "skilled worker" and share same eb3 category as professional.

Also if the entire 5 years pass & someone's PR expires, can he/she re-apply for PR ? If so, are all steps like Police check etc to be done again ?

How do you propose to actually IMPLEMENT this though? I mean how does one actually get out of the quota by "simply agreeing" to buy a house? How does the USCIS enforce that? Don't get me wrong, I would actually possibly benefit from this, but I am not sure how exactly this will go down? The anti-immigrants will see this move as a "BUY YOUR GREEN CARD" or "THE US CITIZENSHIP UP FOR SALE" move.

Stop the bashing of countries with stupid generalizations like cost of living and bad doctors. This is ridiculous. See my other posts dispelling Canadian misconceptions. That your friends or whoever has had badluck in Canada is probably as much due to their lack of perperation and research before going there coupled with their socialist sense of entitlement.
And for all you considering going to Canada, it's not rocket science. Look for a job BEFORE you go. Heck, take a vacation and go there if you get some interviews. I don't care if your doctor friend is driving a taxi cab - they should have known that there is a foreign credential issue going on in that country before they pack up their family and go there (and hopefully this will be ironed out - it is a problem and a big debate right now).
But it's not like there isn't a way to work around it (suck it up and do what you have to do for recertification - yes it's troublesome, but at least your fate is in your own hands, and you're not stuck in retrogression at the mercy of others). And if you think you have more opportunities in the US, why is it that the majority of H1Bs are being sucked up by desi body shops who just turn around and indenture you? Is that considered a wonderful opportunity ( i guess it is)? How many of you can actually work for a non-desi company? Imagine if they didn't exist. Too bad Canada doesn't have the same body shops, eh. Oh the irony.

Look for Canadian jobs, apply, get feedback, attend job fairs in Canada, tap your networks, etc. If you can't find something, DON'T GO.

Glad to see you agree, however I was refuting your justification of a country quota. The point being that the country quota owes its origin to racial considerations and a fixation on protecting levels of European immigration.
I don't know how one would talk to a politician and tell them to increase the quota and then come up with a number and then explain why it should be that number.
In the short term the EB quota should be set to accomodate or exempt anyone who has held a work visa for a period of time (3 years?). This can be pitched as a retention issue as US employers should not lose employees in whom they have made a significant investment. There can be variations on this theme such as requiring that such employees make at least 120% of the prevailing wage for the occupation.

My daughter's current AP is valid till 10/3/2008. She has applied for AP renewal and finger printing is done. Now she needs to attend a course abroad starting later this month and will return to USA on 12/13/2008. Can she leave USA with current AP and return using new AP?

I am working with my company for last 3 yrs on H1-B. I have an approved I-140 and I am filed under EB3.
My H1 expires soon and the employer is going to apply for an extension. After that, they plan to file a new labor for me in EB2 and port the EB3 PD; once the EB2 I-140 is approved. My current title is "Software Engineer". They plan to file me as "Senior Software Engineer". My experience before joining my current employer was 7 yrs.
Is this a legally advisable/feasible scenario? I do have EAD and want to make sure I keep my options open. Given the current scenario, it may take a while to get the new EB2 labor and I140 approved.
Is there is a risk to my existing approved I-140 in this?
